If you are an avid angler and thinking about taking an RV trip to West Virginia, then one of your destinations should be Bakers Run Campground. Bakers Run is located among the shade trees and lush forests near the Elk River in Sutton, West Virginia.

This campground holds intense beauty with abundant wildlife, such as whitetail deer and even a wild turkey or two. Fishing is the best in the state. The Elk River holds an abundance of various species of fish, including bass, walleye, and crappie, among others.

The campground has a total of 77 sites and is open from May 01 to September 30.

Canaan Valley Resort State Park

Canaan Valley Resort State Park is located in Tucker County in the Canaan Valley region of West Virginia, which is found between the Cabin and Canaan Mountains.

This state park is rich in natural habitats, and the valley was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974. About 70 percent of Canaan Valley makes up the National Wildlife Refuge.

The Canaan Valley Resort, that’s inside the state park, is a wonderful place to camp amid the natural beauty of the area. As for campsites, they offer 34 full hookup sites and three primitive tent sites. All the campsites offer a fire ring, picnic tables, and more.

You will find plenty to do and see at this resort. One of the more popular attractions at the resort is the chairlift which will take you to Bald Knob above the valley, where you will see views of the whole valley.

For the more adventurous type, you can take the ski lift and enjoy paragliding from Cabin Mountain.

Big Bend Campground is located in the Monongahela National Forest along the southern part of the Potomac River in Smoke Hole Canyon. This is the perfect campground to get away from it all and enjoy all the Monongahela Forest and Potomac River have to offer.

Fun activities are swimming, fishing, tubing, and kayaking, all within a short distance of the campground. You will have fun with the whole family.

Big Bend has a total of 46 campsites, with 18 being non-reservable, which means first come, first serve. There are also twelve tent sites along the river loop. All the sites offer a lantern holder, picnic table, and fire ring for your convenience.

The campground is open from April to October, weather permitting.

None of the sites offer hookups of any kind, but potable water, a dump station, and flush toilets are available within the campground.

Twin Hollow Campground and Cabins is another ATV-focused campground. This campground sits on top of the Appalachian Mountains in Southern West Virginia. 

Twin Hollow was named number 1 of the ten best ATV Resorts by ATV Rider Magazine. From this campground, you have direct access to the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System.

Bulltown Campground

Civil War buffs will love staying at Bulltown Campground. This campground is situated in the middle of West Virginia, next to Burnsville Lake. 

Near the campgrounds, you will find historic Bulltown, where a Civil War battle occurred in 1863 called the Battle of Bulltown. A reenactment of the Battle of Bulltown takes place here two times a year.

Bulltown Campground varies in its booking windows. Around April 14 to May 24, this campground does not offer reservations and is a first come, first serve season. 

The peak season for Bulltown Campground is from May 25 to September 03, and reservations are available at this time.

The year’s final season for the Bulltown Campground is from September 04 to November 25, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Check-in is at 6 pm, and check-out is at 5 pm. Visitors who are not staying in the campground must leave at 10 pm.

Bulltown offers full hookup sites as well as waterfront electric sites.

If you love the water, you are lucky because they have a marina on Summerville Lake where you can go boating or fishing. You can also rent boats or book a fishing trip with a guide.

Take the family on a trip to the nearby Gauley River National Recreation area, where you can go kayaking, white water rafting, or hiking. 

You won’t want to miss a trip up to the top of the Summersville Lake Lighthouse, where you can see breathtaking views of Summersville Lake and the Gauley River from over the cliffs. The lighthouse is open for tours from April through October.

The Holly River campground is nestled in a small valley in the  Mountain Lakes region of West Virginia. Holly River State Park is a popular tourist destination and is the second-largest state park in West Virginia. 8,101 acres of thick forests cover the mountains in this area.

Fun things to do in the park include hiking on miles of trails, fishing, kayaking, boating, swimming, and even tennis. 

The campground is open from Spring to Autumn. Check-in time is 1 pm, and check-out is at 12 pm. They offer 88 RV sites with electric hookups and picnic tables, WiFi, and cooking grills at each site.

Weekend reservations need to include two consecutive night stays. Sunday thru Thursday nightly bookings are welcome. You may reserve a campsite online, by phone, or by visiting the campground office.

Only one tent or RV is allowed per campsite.

Gary’s Family Campground

Gary’s Family Campground (formerly known as Cox Camping) is located in Great Cacapon, West Virginia in over 60 acres of forest. They offer a total of 35 campsites that can accommodate RVs and tents. All the sites include electric and water hookups. Each site also includes a fire ring and picnic table.

Most of the campground gets WiFi but not at every site. Fun things to do at the campground include indoor and outdoor recreational games such as horseshoes and redneck golf. 

There’s a fully stocked fishing pond onsite where you can take the kids fishing. There is a dump station, flush toilets, and showers onsite.

The main lodge has an antique shop, recreation room, soda vending machine, camp store, and a lounge with large screen TVs as well as a viewing deck outside the lodge.

Check-in time is optional with prior arrangements, and check-out is at 1 pm. If you pay for six nights, you get the seventh night free. Gary’s Family Campground is open year-round, but the water is shut off at the campsites during winter.

Pipestem Resort Camping is located in Pipestem Resort State Park. The state park is located on the east rim of the Bluestone River Gorge. This huge state park consists of 4,050 acres, where you can enjoy many adventurous activities and activities for the whole family.

You can go on a guided trout fishing trip, fly through the mountains on a zip line tour, take a mountain bike ride or try out white water rafting on the Bluestone River.

The kids will love the splash park and adventure lake, where you can go swimming and play on the available recreational water toys. You can also try your hand at kayaking and tubing or take a stand-up paddleboard tour.

The campground has a total of 82 campsites. Thirty-one of the sites include full hookups, while 19 of them are electric only. The campground and state park are open year-round.

Booking a campsite can be made online, by phone, or by visiting the campground office. If your RV is over 25 feet long, you should notify the state park office so they can get you into the right size camping spot.

There are also cabins and lodges within the state park that you can rent. Check-in for the campground is 1 pm, and check-out is at 12 pm.

Lake Sherwood Recreational Area and Campground is located in the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. This campground is next to Lake Sherwood, the largest lake in the Monongahela National Forest.

The campsites are found right next to the lake. They include standard and tent-only sites. There are no electric water or sewer hookups, but the campground does offer a dump station, drinking water, flush toilets, and showers.

If you enjoy hiking, you can take your next trek on the Lake Sherwood Trail, Meadow Mountain Trail, or the Upper Meadow Trail.

If you like plenty of space while camping, you will love Pegasus Farm Campground. The campsites here are huge, a whopping 100 feet by 50 feet, and they have full hookups with 50 Amp service!

The campground is located in the middle of the Monongahela National Forest, so you are surrounded by beauty and peace! There is no office to go to so when you get there you go straight to your campsite, set up and start enjoying nature.

Pegasus Farm Campgrounds’ peak season is from  Mid May to the beginning of October, weather permitting. There is a hospitality barn onsite with a refrigerator, stove, cooking utensils, and free WiFi.

Fun activities include fishing on the Chenowith Creek that runs through the campgrounds. You can hike on trails throughout the Monongahela National Forest or sit back and relax at your campsite.

Pets are allowed except Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and Wolf Hybrids. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times and must be cleaned up after.
