Umpqua Lighthouse State Park
Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is located near Florence, Oregon, in the Winchester Bay area. This 30,000-acre state park has some of North America’s tallest sand dunes, some as high as 500 feet, stretching for 40 miles along the Oregon coast.
These sand dunes are quite the sight and are protected by the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The dunes cannot be accessed from the state park, but they can be accessed at Umpqua beach #3, which is about 1-½ miles away.
Ways to Stay at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park Campground
RV Sites – There are 12 RV campsites with full hookups and back-in access. There are another 8 RV sites that feature partial hookups, which include electricity and water.
Tent Sites – There are 23 tent campsites, some of them located near Lake Marie.
Rustic Cabins – This state park has two rustic cabin rentals overlooking Lake Marie. These cabins include a front porch, electricity, lights, and a locking door. The cabins come complete with either a double bed, bunk bed, futon couch, and table and chairs.
There is no cooking allowed in the cabins. You must bring your own blankets, linens, and a pillow. And there are no showers or bathrooms in the cabins, so you must share the campground’s restrooms and showers. One of the cabins allows pets.
Rustic yurts – There are two rustic yurts that can be rented. The yurts feature everything the rustic cabin features except for the covered porch. All yurts can sleep up to six people. One of the yurts is pet friendly.
Deluxe Yurts – If you want extra comfort, you can rent one of the state park’s six deluxe yurts. One of the deluxe yurts is ADA-compliant, and three of the deluxe yurts allow pets. The deluxe yurts feature everything that the rustic yurts feature plus they have a full bathroom, kitchenette with microwave, and fridge. They also offer an outdoor electric grill, picnic table, and fire pit.

The campground offers many amenities that provide for a comfortable and convenient stay at the state park. These include restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, beach access, a boat ramp, fishing, swimming, and hiking.
Nearby Attractions
This area of Oregon is filled with fun and interesting things to do. One of the main attractions is the Umpqua Lighthouse which was constructed in 1892 and completed in 1894. It’s located at the mouth of Winchester Bay, and there are daily tours of this historic lighthouse.
Some of the best sand dunes in America can be found all around this state park. Lake Marie offers a ton of fun for the whole family, including fishing for rainbow trout or other species, non-motorized boating, paddling, or just enjoying the sandy beach area where you can get a tan and let the kids build sand castles.
Just a mile away is the Salmon Harbor Marina, where you can access Oregon Coast’s largest recreation area. From the Marina, you will have access to the Pacific Ocean, white sandy beaches, the Umpqua River, and the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.
