Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground

Interested in Dinosaurs? Then you will want to get in your RV and head to Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground. This campground and state park is located near Fort Worth, Texas. 

Features at this campground include RV sites with electricity and water hookups, primitive tent sites, and a couple of group campsites. Each RV site includes a picnic table, fire ring, grill, and 30 amp electricity. No horses are allowed in this area.

The South Primitive camping area does not include picnic tables, showers, or water. These sites do include a lantern post and a fire ring. If you plan to camp in this area, please bring adequate water because the nearest potable water fill station is ⅓ to a ½ mile away. There are eight campsites available in this area that can accommodate up to 8 people each.

The other primitive camping area is across the Puluxy River. You must wade 2.5 miles across the river to get to these seven campsites. These sites don’t offer picnic tables, showers, or restrooms. There is water available at the trailhead. Ground fires are prohibited in this camping area.

The park also offers a store to get camping and fishing supplies and purchase souvenirs, books, and more.

Things to do

Fun things at Dinosaur Valley State Park included hiking, biking, looking for dinosaur tracks along the Puluxy River, fishing, swimming, geocaching, and horseback riding.

Nearby attractions include visiting Glen Rose, the “ Dinosaur Capital of Texas.” You could also visit the Action State Historic Site, where you will find the grave of Elizabeth Crocket, wife of Davy Crocket. 

Other areas of interest include the Art Museum, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, and Cedar Loop Great Texas Wildlife Trails.

Campground Policies

Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground is open year-round. State Park gates lock at 10 pm, so if you arrive after 10 pm to camp, you will need the gate code from the email confirmation of your registration to get into the park. You will also need to use the self-pay stations if you arrive late.

If you do not have reservations, you must register at the park office by 9 am the next morning. It is recommended to arrive an hour before dark if you plan on camping in the primitive hike-in camping area across the river.

Hidden Valley RV Park

Hidden Valley RV Park was originally a Texas ranch on the Medina River near the Garza River. This RV park is located near San Antonio, Texas. It offers full hookup RV sites with 30/50 amp electrical service.

Sites can be booked on a nightly, weekly, or monthly basis. They also offer fully furnished RV rentals and cottages.

The RV rentals are called The Bluebonnet Bungalows and are fully furnished and include pots, pans, appliances, towels, dishes, flat screen tv, and a queen size bed.
